ABOUT

Katherine L. Thompson (she/her)
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor

Hey! I'm Katherine, a mom, wife, and mental health counselor. I started Flourish & Thrive to connect with people searching to better themselves.

I'm passionate about working with people who have lost someone and specialize in suicide loss. I also love working with people dealing with infertility, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, and those in the prenatal or postpartum period who feel like they could use some support. I enjoy working with other mental health professionals and folks in the LGBTQIA+ population. I am neuro-affirming and a safe space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Flourish & Thrive was formed on the foundation that everyone deserves quality mental health care. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all model of counseling and will tailor our work to your specific needs. I expect my clients to work as hard as I do to reach the goals we set at the beginning of our journey. I strive to be a transparent, authentic, and kind provider.

SPECIALTIES & FOCUS

01

GRIEF & LOSS

Grief can shatter your worldview and leave you questioning things you never thought of before. Suicide loss introduces countless layers of confusion and feelings. From someone who "gets it," it won't feel like this forever. Until then, you can learn to process your experience and focus on healthy coping strategies.

02

PERINATAL & BIRTH TRAUMA

Making the decision to become a parent can be incredibly exciting - but it can also be frustrating, disappointing, heartbreaking, and soul-shattering if things don't turn out like you expect. Infertility, pregnancy, postpartum, birth trauma - you name it, we can work on processing it and normalizing how being a parent these days is not always a walk in the park.

I have volunteered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) for several years and have a personal connection to suicide loss.

I have completed the Advanced Perinatal Mental Health training from Postpartum Support International (PSI).

LGBTQIA+

03

You are safe with me. I will honor your pronouns and your name. I will not deny your story and can help you rewrite the pieces that will lead to healing . Your story and your life matter. Let's search for ways you can live more authentically in a safe and supported way.

I also offer free letters to support gender-affirming care. We'll meet for a quick session to talk about your goals and the requirements of your surgical provider to ensure I check all the boxes.

04

MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS

Sometimes therapists need a therapist (yeah, I have my own therapist). I'm not afraid to get into the tough work with people who also do this for a living. In fact, I enjoy the insights and knowledge other mental health providers offer in their own therapy sessions and can provide gentle challenges when self-care and restorative actions feel impossible.

SLIDING SCALE

I offer a number of sliding-scale spots on an as-needed basis. If you have financial need and insurance does not cover therapy, let's talk about it in a consultation and see if we can come up with a plan that works for both of us. Therapy should always be accessible.
